Why spend so much time picking on the Mormons?
You know what’s really crazy about Mormons? They spend so much time and energy trying to help one another and even non-mormons as well. They learn true morals and values and unlike other Christian religions, they are expected to live these morals and values. They are taught that alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs are harmful. Who knew? The Mormon church donates millions of dollars to humanitarian projects and disasters. Practicing Mormons are generally more happy and honest than other people too. How crazy is that? Also, Mormons are taught to pray and ask God himself if the things they teach are true so the individual can know for him or herself. This is why practicing Mormons are so faithful because they gained a testimony from prayer and weren’t just indoctrinated. Wow, they are crazy!!! Also, there is no paid clergy in the Mormon church so the money can be used for better things than making the religion a business venture, unlike other faiths. Mormons take church jobs because they truly believe in what they are doing and not for financial gain…again crazy! You know what’s craziest of all…..this belief will never make it on this website because it’s all true and every anti-mormon knows it!

I’d be happy to leave the Mormons in peace with their wacky mythology. But in 2008 this evil cult saw fit to spend millions of dollars and organize lots of followers to take my rights away in California with Prop 8. If they can amend my constitution to take away my rights–not exactly “trying to help”, eh?–it’s a lot more harmless for me to mock their misguided beliefs.
LikeDislikeThey didn’t take away any rights you aren’t already guaranteed under the constitution. Take a peak, you might be surprised. If you want to be gay, no harm no foul. But we can’t keep giving additional rights to every special interest who wants them. Soon we will be having to grant rights and protections to bald men or people with 6 toes, or people who have mixed marriages or whatever else you want to dream. The real problem is people’s attitudes and unfortunately, you can’t legislate attitudes. They tried once…it was called prohibition. We all know how that went.
LikeDislikeThis could have been a good argument to use in favor of slavery. “We can’t granting new rights to these people – where will it end?” Also, bald people and people with 6 toes have all the rights (including marriage) that everyone else does. The right to marry is not a “special right” for gay people – it is a right that others already have. This whole notion that giving people different from ourselves the same rights we enjoy is somehow giving them special rights is a fallacy.

LikeDislikeI don’t see why men don’t demand the right to use the women’s restroom. Women have that right. Why can’t men do it, too?! Just because we’re a different gender doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the same kind of privacy that women do. And don’t tell me something stupid like, “If men want privacy, they can use the men’s room.” What a crock! You don’t see women jumping at the chance to belly up to a urinal, do you? That’s because they like the women’s room better. Well who’s to say that we men wouldn’t like the women’s room better, too? Gender has NOTHING to do with rights. Girls should be allowed in boy scout programs. Unemployed men should be allowed in the National Association of Professional Women. Maternity leave for impotent men!! It’s very simple. As soon as this nation realizes that gender matters about as much as hair color, the world will be better place… more confusing maybe, but “better.”

LikeDislikeMormons provide at least 50% of the cash and, at least initially, most of volunteers on the ground working to overturn same sex marriage laws in California. Perhaps you don’t give a hill of beans, Vince, because it’s not your marriage or family that’s on the line. But I don’t think you’d take it as lightly if an out-of-state group began pouring money into your state to annul your marriage, or turn your children into out-of-wedlock bastards. Additionally, there are hundreds of laws from hospital visitation rights to tax codes that now are accorded only to heterosexuals. If you look in the constitution, I don’t think you’ll find homosexuals defined as second class citizens, but that’s the legal reality for the people who pay taxes and fight abroad to support the US. It’s about time that changed – and it will, whether you like it or not.

LikeDislikeIf Mitt Romney was as faithful to America as a Mormon is to his church then he might be presidential. Turns out he spent a good portion of his life hiding his money from Uncle Sam. In America he can screw his fellow man and run for president but if he did that to the church he’d be excommunicated. Nice of US to send him an additional $77k a year for horse ballet. Wouldn’t't you agree.
LikeDislikeYa he may have avoided some of his taxes but if you do some research on Mitt he also donated 15% of is income to his church and another 15% to charities, so thats about 7 million dollars he gave to people and places that need it more than our government, and I would rather him give it to charities and his church than Obamas dumb ass.

LikeDislikeWhat’s crazy is that Mormons make up less than 2% of the population in California. So its crazy that they could have made prop 8 pass by themselves. The real truth is that one of two things happened there…1. People who wanted legalized gay marriage didn’t show up to vote, or 2. Way more people are against gay marriage than you thought and you need someone to blame it on. A church or organization can put up all the money in the world, but at the end of the day….you either have the votes or you don’t.

LikeDislike“Granting rights to people with mixed marriages” what the heck does that mean? You aren’t trying to correlate being gay, having six toes, being a bald man or in a mixed marriage with rights not guaranteed under the constitution are you. As far as the mixed marriage thing goes, get used to it bud as at least 60% of the country are mixed! Even bald men with six toes who happen to be gay deserve every right this country offers. They might even marry out of their race! OH the shock!

It seems that through your biased emotional response, and your inability to use logic or simply “ask why”, you somehow forgot option#3. DEDUCTIVE REASONING. (If you don’t know what that is, please stop reading this comment, and google it. When finished, return to this page for an example) Let’s see here… approximately $39,000,000 was raised for the passing of prop. 8. Hmmm… Alright well… these guys over here contributed X amount of dollars, these people over here contributed X amount of dollars, and this group over here raised X amount of dollars for it. Well ladies and gentlemen, the only organization left would be the LDS Church, and if my elementary arithmetic knowledge serves me correctly, then the X amount of dollars remaining would SEEM to have come from them. Even if you can understand that, you are still missing the point by a long shot. The fact that you can’t even begin to question yourself and separate God from the equation is sad because if you were truly able to do that, you might see the light…. If a person wants to marry or blow or fuck someone of the same sex, and they are truly happy with this decision, it is okay for you to think it is wrong. It is okay for you to think it is “yucky” or “gross”. But when you start fucking with strangers personal choices, choices that do not affect you whatsoever (other than your belief that marriage is owned by christians, and you have a “DIVINE RESPONSIBILITY” to “perfect” the saints), then we have a problem. When you start telling people that they don’t know what will truly make themselves happy, they don’t know what is good for themselves and we do (“all we are trying to do is help”), when this way of thinking is thought to be okay with issues like this, you have someone who can be harmful and is very very dangerous to society. God isn’t on your side, and he only exists because of your belief in him.
“In 2010, the California Fair Political Practices Commission fined the LDS church for failing to follow campaign disclosure policies during the last two weeks leading up to the election, which amounted to $37,000 in non-monetary contributions. They were fined $5,538.”
People, please start asking the question “Why”? When you hear, read, or listen to something, don’t just blindly believe it, but don’t discredit it. THINK ABOUT IT!!! We need more people who can make logical, well thought out choices and see things from the other side, whichever side that is. We must learn to UNDERSTAND and RESPECT one another as fellow human beings, not as children of God.

LikeDislikeI think that it is just fine that the LDS church has not released any financials.the church seems to do fine. They make temples, crisis centers, chapels, safe houses, community centers, and much, MUCH more. I am not LDS, but I live in a community where is is one of the main practices for religion. When my husband had just lost his job and couldn’t find anywhere to work. Some of the women from the church came once a week and helped us through it. They would help be giving us food orders when we didn’t have enough money to provide for ourselves and our childeren. Also, I had to undergo surgery a couple years ago and had to be on bed rest for 3 months. Members from the church gathered together and made a schedule for bringing us dinner EVERY night. They were all kind and helpful. We didn’t ask them for any help. They are just good people that see a problem and try to help one another. Again, I am not a Mormon. But I think that people need to realize that they can believe in some odd things, but they are still good people. And at the end of the day. That’s what we all want to be.

LikeDislikeThe Mormon church is a sexist, racist and homophobic cult. This is not to say that other religious organizations are not also sexist, racist and homophobic, but the Mormon church was founded on sexist and racist principles in the fairly recent past and has become homophobic over time. At the same time most non-Mormons are becoming more tolerant while Mormons seem to be getting worse. Mormons should stay the hell away from politics.
LikeDislikeThe LDS faith is not homophobic, you are free to do whatever you want to do in your own time, the church does not support or oppose prop 8, although many of the members of the church oppose gay marraige due to the effects it has on society as a whole and upcoming generations. If we allow anybody to marry anybody on the premise that it is for equality sake, we will have people wanting to legalize the marraiges to animals, to oneself, and to relatives…where does it stop.

LikeDislikeBullshit. The LDS church was fined for directly contributing money to the Prop 8 campaign and directing members from the pulpit to do the same. But I am here for the radical, inane opinions. fingertip diarrhea if you will. whether or not mormons officially support activism against the rights of gays does not require any explanation. this is because of the on-going trend of the absence of self guided thought. mormons (to mormons) preach of the subversiveness of gay marriage on society, this is evident. raised in an environment where lying is not only an acceptable practice but a foundation for life, mormons of course find no fault in this preaching. do not give up hope rachael, if you are truly concerned with getting your facts straight there is a way! take it one day at a time, and remember: if you cant see it, and there’s no proof of its existence (kolob), (god), (gods), and your local priest (you live in kansas) assures you that it does and all you have to do is !believe!… it isn’t there. it is an age old scam, although widely accepted and prevalent in every town and almost every street in our nation. they want to collect a tithe from you, and hope you like the book of lies they hand you in return.

LikeDislikeAubrey – millions of people who do not belong to the Mormon faith stay away from drugs, have strong moral standards, etc. Mormons have not cornered the market on morals. Millions of people with absolutely no religious affiliation do charitable works and live beautiful, meaningful lives. Sorry, but your pride in paying tithes to send missionaries out doesn’t move me. Basically you’re sending people out to foreign countries to tell them that their culture and beliefs are wrong and that the Mormon way is the only way. So you’re inflicting on them what you say you detest when it’s aimed at you. I’ve been visited by your missionaries and they must have been trying to make a quota because they were VERY persistent. I find it interesting that the LDS faith is quietly building empires…America’s largest cattle ranch, orchards, snapping up chains of department stores, and so on. All of those millions in your tithes that could have been used to help the poor were spent on buying real estate and businesses. Will you guys even need all of that stuff once you’re whisked off to the planet Kolob -isn’t that in the book of Abraham, Book of Mormon? Forgive me if I sound snarky, after all you’re just 14 and I’m guessing you’re not allowed to do much thinking for yourself. Your own faith considers you a second class citizen because you’re female, so you won’t have to figure any of this out anyway. And don’t give me some nonsense about “addiction.” People can become addicted to the internet, video games, or the TV. Most people don’t. Just like how most people who enjoy a cup of tea don’t become caffeine fiends.

I my self am grateful for aubrey, I worked hard to earn over 10,000 dollars ,so I could drop every thing my job my schooling everything. To bring others to come unto christ. Because of her faith full tithing I was able to have food,a car and a apartment. Let me remind you I didn’t get paid one cent while I was out for two voluntary years. As missionaries we don’t tell people they are wrong we invite others to come unto christ by helping them receive the restored gospel by finding faith in christ, repentance, baptism, receiving the holy ghost and enduring to the end. Not once did I FORCE any one to be baptized mormon.

LikeDislikeCattle ranches, orchards, department stores…I’m sorry, but a lot of these things are established for humanitarian reasons. There’s this place called the Bishop’s storehouse where volunteers help process millions of pounds of food that are given to the poor and sent out to third world countries as well as victims of natural disasters. And that departments store works on donations from everyone, some of the goods are put out on shelves at low prices for low income families and the stores offer job opportunities for struggling people. Donations that aren’t put on the shelf are immediately sent to people in need. If that’s not use of their millions to help the poor, then I don’t know what is. By the way, they also funded the development of a highly digestible porridge for starving children so they don’t die of re-feeders syndrome as they’re weaned onto solid foods that their bodies couldn’t previously process. So what if their tithes also bring in enough money to build the churches and temples they need to worship. They have their freedom to practice religion like any other. I don’t believe in their stance on gay marriage, I don’t believe in the words of Joseph Smith, I drink, I have tattoos, but I am very pissed at the insinuation that they are just a bunch of money grabbing empiricists. And you can’t be “forgiven if you sound snarky” when you’re blatantly attacking a teenage girl.

And I have never, not once met a Mormon who was sexist, racist, anything. They are all so nice, so pleasant and so helpful. Literally, most of their life goals are to help others, lighten loads and to love one another unconditionally. You shouldn’t knock em tell you try em. This makes me sad reading these cruel and, frankly, uneducated opinions. Funny thing is, as angry as this makes me, I think the Mormons I know would immediately forgive and hope the best for you in your life. Hope you find God. Have a good life, you deserve it, but stop trash talking things you know next to nothing about.

LikeDislikeAubrey, just because you share a common faith with Mitt Romney does not make him a ‘nice man’. His character, whether met face to face or not, is gauged by his actions. He founded a company that amassed a personal fortune… over twenty million American dollars worth… that he deliberately stashes in accounts that allow him to be deceitful and unfair, regarding ‘taxation and representation’. As an American he demands the ‘rights’ of an American, right up to the right to run for the Presidency. As a ‘not nice greedy self-serving prosperity pimp’ he sees nothing wrong with contriving and using means to evade taxation, premised solely upon ‘loop holes’ designed specifically for the ‘much advantaged’ while engaging in full use of all the ‘amenities of Citizenship’ that all other Citizens have to pay full price for in taxation, when proportionately their lives are grossly affected by the payment. And why did I refer to him as a ‘pimp’? Because he ‘sold precious’ things to other countries… American Innovations; American Assets; American Businesses; American Employment; American Dreams and Opportunity to support American Families… ALL SOLD FOR HIS PERSONAL AND UNTAXABLE PROFITS… just like a pimp, who sells the ‘flesh’ of others for his own untaxed personal gain. TOO… Mitt Romney is a liar. He invokes negative feelings without regard to Truth… for the sheer purpose of initiating hatefulness and lies… both of which he builds upon to foster even greater lies about his own false accomplishments… TOO, his actual record as Gov. of Massachusetts reflects him taking credit where credit is not due and failing to mention how he actually made the budget meet ends… BY RAISING FEES, rather than taxes… as a SNEAKY way to do exactly what he promised not to, by insinuation… ‘not cause more cost to the citizens’… by saying he wouldn’t raise ‘taxes’… which ‘legally or technically is true’ but also technically is NOT true because raising the ‘fees‘ … even on blind people and mentally retarded people… DID RAISE THE COST OF LIVING FOR THE VERY PEOPLE HE PROMISED WOULD NOT BE MADE THE WORSE FOR WEAR, DUE TO HIS ADMINISTRATION… so… he is not just a liar, Aubrey… he is a SNEAKY CALCULATING LIAR.

In fact, a lot of the people within the church are good people that have good intentions and they truly believe that they are doing God’s work. With that being said, religion continues to play a role in dividing people and societies. Whether or not that was the intention is irrelevant. What defines something? What was intended of it? Or what has become of it?

LikeDislikeYou know WHY I’m on this site today? It’s got NOTHING to do with Mormons.
I have Mormon acquaintences, and I like them just fine.
However, we now have a bunch of very dangerous candidates running for the top office in the land: One outrageous, shame-based, multiply-married, unfeeling Catholic who says one downright lie and incendiary thing after another; there’s a series of fundamentalist wing-nuts have dropped out, and the ONE left standing is not only an uber-conservative angry Catholic, who would invade your wife or daughter’s bedroom to dictate they cannot use birth control, and wants to shrink gov’t only until it’s small enough to fit inside their crotch, but he is also a member of OPUS DEI!Opus Dei anyone?
The leading candidate of the bunch is a Mormon – and I watch as this guy strapped his dog to the roof of a family car and goes on a haul to Canada ( I have dogs and believe me that dog was in hell); I hear him talk about not worrying about ‘poor people’in our country, and then deny the actual good things he did do in Massachusetts, becuase he wants to appear like a lunatic to ge thru the primary.
Well, I want to understand WHERE that person is coming from, and looking at this blog , I DO get it. He is as disconnected from reality as he appears for good reason.
I’ve been noting: There’s something BLANK in his stare, and that of his wife and sons every time they appear together.
I sense that he’s not ‘present’, but living somewhere in his head.
And now I know why.

Boy, you look silly now…there are enough things to list as wrong with Mormons – no one (including Carol) has to resort to charging them with polygamy. That’s in the past – but still a big part of why many of us view it as a cult. Remember – it was all ‘divinely inspired’…so it’s a reasonable criticism as to whether the entire religion and its book were divinely inpired as claimed. Oh, I almost forgot…it was also divinely inspired to be racist until 1978. Who knew God could change his or her mind!

LikeDislikeWell, Page the fact is that while Mormonism works for many it does not for many others…..and sites like this provide the information people need in order to make an informed decision. I was LDS for 35+ years and spent a lot that time trying to make the illogical make sense. I made excuses for Joseph Smith and Brigham Young….made excuses for the Mormon Church’s racist, sexist and homophobic views because I was taught they came from God.
Learning the real history and doctrine helped me to also realize that the Church isn’t what it claims to be and that much of it is just the fallible ideas of men.
I mean even your comments show how little most LDs know about their own faith:
“Practicing Mormons are generally more happy and honest than other people too. ”
Utah has the highest anti-dpressant use in the US.
“there is no paid clergy in the Mormon church” Not true. This is a faith-promoting myth propagated by the hierarchy. While local leaders (bishops and SPs) aren’t paid, misson presidents, area authorities and GAs, receive stipends or living allowances— as well as benefits. President Hinckley refers to them here.

Look under the heading “4. Why is the Church in commercial business of any kind?” towards the end of the paragraph.
“it’s all true and every anti-mormon knows it!”
This is the most egregious of all your claims and one I used to make myself as a faithful Mormon. Fact is though the internet has made it clear to thousands that the church is not what it claims to be. Critics like myself are far more comfortable with the idea that the LDS Church is NOT God’s one true church than we ever with the idea that it was.
The facts are out there. Good luck in finding the path best for you.

LikeDislikeI understand where your coming from, but I too do contend with some of the beliefs..I look at it some what logically, somethings I cant explain.. Frankly every religion is based on some “MAN” coming down from a mountain ,or someplace claiming to have spoken to god or heavenly messenger… So big deal where the doctrine come from, we all seek something, for answers or simply just peace.. What ever rocks your boat.. I live in a country where I can believe what I desire, and others can mock whatever they desire. Most religions read ” stone or kill ” for adultery, premarital sex, etc..No due process, “stone or kill” How Weird is that.
All religions are weird, pick one or don’t. Everyone’s choice.. As for old Mit
don’t really care what his religion is. If the man is evil, so be it. Ted “the uni-bomber was a Harvard grad. Can we say all Harvard grads are nuts or perfect for the job. All Mormons are not Mitt Romney. Don’t not vote for him because he is Mormon or not. Vote for him if you agree with him, or not your choice once again. Obama is Muslim, have you read the Koran, some weird ideas in there, not to mention the extremist within that religion, but should we have held that against Obama.. NO this is America..We are tolerant to murderers and thieves, you can pick on the Mormons all you want, but cut them a little slack. They do try to help people and family’s with little or no participation. Since my family converted we’ve never been closer to each other, or closer to god..We pray to god in Jesus name. and try to live righteous, notice the word “TRY” we’re not perfect, neither is the religion, but its where we found peace.. Where everybody else finds peace is up to them.. If my religion is wrong that’s okay too..
I still believe its the thought that counts. We’re not hurt’in any body..
Much love to all, and God bless you, if you want him to, other wise good luck in your endeavors

LikeDislikeWhat do you mean your “cult is not hurting anyone?” I have a friend whose family was excommunicated by the Mormon cult because her brother was the first in our county to die of HIV/AIDS. This family was a loving, believing, unit among their Mormon “brothers” and “sisters”. They were shunned by the church in which they’d grown up. LikeDislikeIf you sum it all up, I guess what he was trying to say is, “We all need to find what religion is most convenient for us” “Which one do I like the best?” Religion breeds self absorption and gives little to no thought for the future. It teaches people that people are evil, but as long as you do what we say and what God says, you got nothing to worry about. Heaven is a heartbeat away.
LikeDislikeSince when is Obama a Muslim? You had a somewhat good argument going there until that assertion. As for why it is important that we know what our highest officials believe in? that is simple: are you going to enforce your beliefs on the rest of us in the way of practical law? If you really believe that we are murdering children with abortion, arent you going to try and stop ‘murder’ by overturning Roe v Wade? If you think gay is a condition that is inherited and therefore ‘wrong’, won’t you try and “fix” it? Maybe by prayer or some other religious foolishness? Won’t you try and limit those who can marry and enjoy a life with their partner be it man and man or woman and woman, simlly because it is not in accordance with your religion. All these beliefs are derived from a religious notion. Are they not?
That is why we wanted to know what Mitt thought. The fact that he did not share imortant factors with us, i.e., taxes, his time as Mormon Bishop, his real core values without changing them all the time is a big reason why he lost.

LikeDislikeThe original thread is so true.
I was a Mormon for 16 years of my adult life. To this day, I still admire many of the moral values and principals taught in the LDS church. My experience is most of the church members are honest and good people that lead exemplary lives.
HOWEVER… the sunny and cheerful facade put forth by LDS church cannot “shove under the rug” (as much as it tries) its’ dark past and extremely problematic doctrinal writtings. Anyone of three dozen issues discredits Joseph Smith as a prophet of God, seerer and revelator. I understand that Faith is the opposite of sight and all religions have issues. However, any possible evidence that has been studied and researched, is summarily discredited by professional non-LDS archeologists. The most potent to me is the fraud that the “Book of Abraham” and the fact that there are over 1500 changes to the original Book of Mormon (Translated directly from the word of God) to the current, more correct edition.
In Christianity, there is tangible archaeological evidence (ie dead sea scrolls, multiple accounts, other religions accepting Jesus as a phophet – Islam) that Jesus, at the very least was an historical figure.
Not only is there no creditable evidence accepted by the outside professional community, but there is overwhelming evidence that The Book of Mormon/ Book of Abraham / Pearl of Great Price has about as much historical data as The Harry Potter series.
The Smithsonian Institute and The National Geographic Society have both written statements regarding that the Book of Mormon is historically unlikely.
The Church-back NWAF founder Thomas Ferguson, a Latter-day Saint) after 20 years of dilgently looking for evidence came to the conclusion in a 1976 paper:
“…The real implication of the paper is that you can’t set the Book-of-Mormon geography down anywhere — because it is FICTIONAL and will never meet the requirements of the dirt-archeology. I should say — what is in the ground will never conform to what is in the book.
Michael Coe of Yale also commented:
“As far as I know there is not one professionally trained archaeologist, who is not a Mormon, who sees any scientific justification for believing the historicity of The Book of Mormon, and I would like to state that there are quite a few Mormon archaeologists who join this group”
The LDS church can repeat warm and inviting mantra’s about the wonderful “Plan of Salvation” and “families are forever” but either Joseph Smith was a prophet of God or horny, sociopath who was talented at instituting a cult of personality and created a great fraud. Looking at his historical life choices he was the latter.

LikeDislikeI relate the LDS church to an organizations like the free masons or similar clubs in that the network is generally tight and they look after one another. I saw more than a few companies that were run by LDS followers outsource or award contracts and services to other LDS persons and entities. CR England, Knight Transportation, Swift transportation, Salt River Project are just a few of them.
Something I also found strange was you couldn’t attend just ANY LDS curch, you have to go to the one in your “zone”.

LikeDislikeRacist: really? Look at the history of blacks in the religion. Look at the interpretation of the story of Babel and of skin color between the Nephites and Lamanites. The whole religion was based on Manifest Destiny and providing racist justification for taking the land of the brown natives.
Sexist: look at the Laurel Society (part of the “Young Women” organization) which indoctrinates women with their values. A woman’s role is to display the “sweet spirit”, serve men, and make babies.
Homophobic: I can’t think of a single male Mormon I’ve known (most of my friends in high school were Mormon, and I’ve had Mormon coworkers) who wasn’t homophobic. The worst part is that they don’t even realize it. They don’t internalize it as hate or fear, but more generally as disgust or pity, so they don’t process it as homophobia. They just think that’s how everyone views “the gays”.

LikeDislikeI am gay.
As a gay man, I seek tolerance, understanding & empathy from people who are not gay so that I can lead my private life the way I choose.
Since I seek tolerance from others, who am I to be intolerant?
My preferences, choices and beliefs are my own. If I expect you to be open-minded and accept me and my uniqueness, then it helps if I’m open-minded and accepting of you and your uniqueness.
I recently saw footage from the Gay Pride Parade in Salt Lake City, UTAH. I saw lots of people happily marching & carrying signs as well as plenty folks along the streets cheering them on. Hey, it wasn’t SF Pride, it wasn’t ‘in your face’ male nudity, but it was a Gay Pride Parade.
Anybody want to try a Gay Pride Parade in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia? You’d get ‘stoned’, quite literally.
So what’s my point?
Tolerance. Do unto others. See the good in other people.
You can do more to change other peoples’ beliefs by engaging them respectfully than by calling them idiots.

As a Mormon I just want to say that you’ve got the right approach. While I religiously speaking don’t agree with homosexuality, It would be hard for me to justify the Government telling you what you can or can not do. It’s not their place. I think the major mistake people make when it comes to forwarding the cause of liberal arguments, such as gay marriage, is they lack what you have! They cry for tolerance but then piss and moan about all the “Mormons” and Christians and are quick to name calling and finger pointing on any point they disagree with instead of having the tolerance they demand for themselves. Cheers to you Patrick, someone I disagree with but we can still be civil and realize that being neighbors requires a little give and take on both our part.

LikeDislikeI find it interesting to see Mormons defending themselves on the basis of their values, about which there can be valid debate. Homophobia is rampant across conservative American culture, Mormons are no worse than other groups and less strident than some. They have been racist and male supremacist, and while these traits remain they are becoming less marked. One can also respect their hard line on drugs and alcohol, but all this is beside the point.
What’s in question is the basic “revelation” on which the entire religion is based: and it’s 100% phony. Joseph Smith, a womanising drunk, was also a fraud, and exposed as such by the “book of Abraham” episode. The book of Mormon contains a history of America which is demonstrably and laughably false. There were no gold plates; the book is Joseph “old Came-to-pass” Smith’s own creation and draws on his knowledge of the Authorised Version, freemasonery and the occult. And it is so drearily written.
It is quite staggering that there should be any debate about this. A man who admits to being a Mormon thereby advertises his complete lack of insight and intellectual rigor. He might as well wear a sign around his neck saying “I trust in Joseph Smith, so you can’t trust me as far as you can blow me”. That such a man is within a whisker of becoming America’s next President is beyond terrifying.

LikeDislikeChad, I think it is fair to say that Mormons are so personally identified with their beliefs, because their entire ‘religion’ is premised upon a semi-clever conman who literally MADE THE WHOLE THING UP… OBVIOUSLY… by way of stealing and ‘reinventing’ concepts and text, from multiple venues, to manifest his own little domain of ‘I can do anything because I am special and destined to be god’ … which caught on… because other men found that desirable, as well, and Smith knew that, hence ‘set it up for them to earn that right as well’… rather than the lot of them simply attempt to strive towards divine perfection, knowing all mortals will fail in obtaining perfection, by virtue of the reality that they are mortals, not gods, but… at least the pursuit itself lends to the overall improvement of both the individual and society itself, when premised on true faith in goodness and love… rather than on fear, hatred, and false presumption of superiority over any one else… which is hateful… and especially upon the notion of such hatefulness being Divine Will, when it is so obviously and insidiously reflective of mankind’s own worse inequities. You are not alone, in such fallacy of life’s purpose… Christians suffer this same ‘delusion of grandeur’… as does any ‘religion’ that suggests spirituality is evil or void unless ‘controlled’ by ‘religious doctrine’.

LikeDislikeI hope you find some peace brother…just remember that there is no such thing as ‘perfect’, not even God or Jesus. Look around you. How mundane and easy life would be if there was a perfect being controlling and inventing everything. It was only when I freed my mind from Christianity and religion as a whole did I really start living. Without the fear of hell or the promise of a better life awaiting me did I really start to value the life that I was already gifted…in the here and now. The hands that work are better than the lips that pray. Jesus was a great man and agreat teacher, but a man just the same. His central teachings are to be learned and followed, but as we often do with our heroes, we elevated him to God-like status…it wasn’t enough that he gave us his mind, we wanted his body too. I worship no idil, no man, no invisible being, it is enough for me to just love and live right by mysekf and others. Peace.

For fairness sake, in the process of working to make that happen, they should work to invent a word that accommodate such arrangement, after all they designated the word “gay” to describe a man who is not straight and no one is “attacking them” for it. They can extend the same common sense to resolve this issue also. But to highjack something that will never describe what they want to make happen and expect the rest of us to cowardly and quietly endure it is really stomach turning to say the least. And now the doers of this should not bitch about the consequences. That will be like attempting to steal someone’s property and when the rightful owner does what they have to do to defend it, the thief goes nuts! well how bright and brilliant is that!!!!
Speaking of mormons, I started to go to their wards as result of meeting 2 absolutely delightful angel-like missionaries of theirs, abroad. I was in such bad predicament, they paid for part of my trip back to the states, they gave me extra cash inside an enveloppe I did not even ask for. They wrote me letter along with that, that I still read every day, it is so full of affection, pure love and encouragement. They gave me bunch of mormon local references where I was going that can help me once I am back home wether it be to look for this or get that. They even gave me the contact info of some of their relatives. I found nothing but love and innocence in these people. Unlike what I read, the central subject to their services is Christ and Christ alone and not Joseph Smith. In researching them, I did come across some wacky staff but each and every denomination has its own closet hidden squeletons. None of us are perfect as Isaiah 64:6, Romans 3:23, Eclasiastes 7:20 as well as other bible verses oh so wisely assert.
Some will argue that they do not recognise the bible as a an authentic authority to draw from or base one’s learning on. And I say it leads us to our maker, the alternative is to believe our ancestors are monkeys, so are we and therefore a monkeying around (pun intended) is perfectly acceptable when it’s not.
Let’s forgive each other, it really is not that hard to do. First it cost nothing to do that and second, we gain others’ grounds by forgiving others.

Really? My wife and I chose not to have children, are you trying to tell me that we’re not actually married? My brother’s wife can’t conceive so they adopted. That’s not really a family either?
Further, since you seem to think that this affair must be ordained by your imaginary friend, does that mean that Muslims, Shintos, and Hindus aren’t really married either?
I’m frankly amused by your insistence that you’re not attacking when you use phrases like “stomach turning” and comparisons to theft. If someone described your actions in those terms would you feel attacked? I would.
> Let’s forgive each other, it really is not that hard to do.
I’ll forgive you when you stop attacking those who mean you no harm.

LikeDislikeCome to think of it, the institution of marriage predates Mormonism, Christianity, and Judaism by hundreds of millennia.
So if anyone is guilty of theft it must be you.
If it were up to me I’d outlaw marriage between homophobes. After all, you’ll just try to teach your disgusting behaviors to innocent children.

LikeDislikeI would like you all to think about something. Jospeh Smith is part of my family. How would you feel if someone said such mean things about one of your family members. The LDS church is one of the first groups in on any natural or unatural disaster in the world. They offer humanitarian work in those incidents. There are gay members of the church who go to church every week and love to be LDS members. I do not know how they are sexist. Man and woman is seen as equls in the church. How are they racist? Any race can be a member of the church and have all the same rights within the church. No one is excluded from the blessings.
Why pass judgement about things that you do not know? Why attack someone for believing something that is different from your beliefs?
As for prop 8 The LDS church was not the only church backing it.
“Start with the major religious backers of Prop 8 — Catholic, Mormon and evangelical believers.” here is the link if you would like to read the whole article http://content.usatoday.com/communities/Religion/post/2012/02/gay-marriage-prop-8-judge-walker/1 . Or just google what religions backed prop 8.
Why can’t we all just get along? Your religion should not be the deciding factor of how people judge you. Open your hearts and your minds you may be surprised who you get along with when you stop hating someone becuase of their religion.

LikeDislikeYou can not help it if you are a descendant of Joseph Smith. But just because you are, is not excuse to defend his crimes against humanity. And yes… making up a religion and deliberately lying to and misleading people, is a crime against humanity.
My surname is Cahoon… I am not Mormon. But many by that name, are Mormon.
I am NOT a direct descendant of THE Cahoon that joined up to Mormonism and gave rise to so many more Mormons, of that name, born of multiple wives, through his line…
Even though I am not in that line… he IS a DIRECT DESCENDANT OF MY DIRECT DESCENDANT…
AND it ticks me off that just because ‘he joined up’… that now my Scottish ancestors, who existed BEFORE Joseph Smith ever existed and concocted his tales… are now ‘sealed to the Mormon Rolls’… !!!!!
This atrocity is white-washed by supposition that it is merely a desire to keep families together… BUT in reality it is an ‘exercise of religious greed’ that strips away and entirely negates… the religious choices made by others, within their own given life times.
I know that it is a joke and impossible… because no one has authority over the spirit or will of another… but it is presented as if it does have authority and can claim ‘the souls’ of others… despite their own choices!!
It is laughable on the one hand, to pause and consider… ‘If you can’t win over converts in life, because they were born before the religion was available to offer to them… not to worry… we can baptize them by proxy!!!!
It is no less laughable to see that this ‘love for family’ is also applied in modern times, if they lived during the ‘existence’ of Mormonism and DELIBERATELY chose not to be Mormon. Again… just wait until they croak and baddah bing, baddah boom… baptize them by proxies… and they will be ‘available for further consideration’ later??
After the laughter, sinks in the reality of finding it extremely disturbing that, thanks to Joseph Smith and his followers, that my direct ancestors, who were NOT Mormons have been ‘victimized’ after their deaths, in what is nothing short of ‘spiritual desecration’.
Desecration is defined as : profanation: blasphemous behavior; the act of depriving something of its sacred character; “desecration of the Holy Sabbath”.
I feel so strongly about this, on principle alone, the very principle that allows Mormons to be Mormons… ie… religious freedom… that I began a petition against the Mormons… and invite all who feel the same to sign it…

LikeDislikeYou need to check out your own history a little better. It was a long-held tenant of the LDS church that the good angels were blond and the bad angels had black hair & dark skin. Prior to 1978, blacks weren’t even allowed in the clergy.
I guess Joseph Smith didn’t realize that Jesus had black hair, brown eyes, and swarthy skin.
Your assertion about sexism is just too bizarre to believe. How many Mormon women have multiple husbands? How many women get their own planets after death? How many Mormon women are the head of the household, and can expect their husbands to obey their orders without question?

The Mormon Church donates only about 0.7 percent of its annual income to charity; the United Methodist Church gives about 29 percent.
So much for how charitable they are. They are a business, plain and simple, more worried about building shopping malls and churches.

LikeDislikeWow, i love how absolutely pointless every single one of these conversations really is. No one is really learning and growing and if there is no knowledge being exchanged, then what is the point? Mormons have their beliefs. They hold the right to believe and practice what they want to believe. Some (And i said SOME) are the nicest people you could ever meet. Some (and i said SOME) are the meanest most terrible people you could ever meet. It doesn’t matter what religion you are from, there are going to be the greatest and worst people. If you could just live without attacking someone else then this world would be a better place in general. Mormons do have a history of helping others. They have one of the largest welfare programs in the world, they are generally the kind of people that do want to help others. There are a lot of members of this church though and so you do get the best and the worst. The majority of you are judging them on the worst of the people. I don’t want to be the cause of any argument. I just want to point out that all the arguing goes absolutely no where and it will just continue to waste all your lives away. I hope you all have a great day! God Bless!

Fazer uma sincera oração, para saber a vontade de Deus;
Prestar atenção nas coisas que acontecerão na sua vida depois de orar e buscar a verdade;
Manter a fé em Deus e Jesus Cristo, saber que Ele nos conhece de mente e coração, e conhece o que está dentro deles.
Have a nice week

And don’t tell me that the LDS doesn’t still support ‘plural marriage’ because that is what they are telling their brainwashed masses it will be like in heaven. (FLDS=LDS don’t let them spin yarns about one being different or better.)

LikeDislikeFirst of all, Religion is Religion – which throughout history has been the primary cause for isolation, separation, segregation, judgment, racism, prejudice, bias, discrimination, wars…the list goes on and on.
I was a Mormon for many, many years and have extensive knowledge in it’s teachings and it’s meanings behind the teachings. I am not an Anti Mormon – I am Anti Moronic.
What I mean by this is simple. If anyone with half a brain took it upon themselves to truly look into anything, they will find that there are 2 sides to everything. Taking ones teachings as the ‘Be all end all’ at their worth is simply a game of memorization. We use these methods in schools to our children, so they can lead productive lives to benefit what our society deems as a worthy avenue to become producers to our uncivilized civilization.
To study both sides of an idea or teaching allows one to acquire a larger insight. Seeing from both sides gives one Wisdom. Wisdom is a building block most religions state is a foundation of all teachings. Sadly, if one tries to acquire Wisdom independently, it can pose a threat against that said religion. Truthfully.
Through experience, I can tell you that devout Mormons believe everything the Prophet, Book of Mormon, numerous Church Doctrines and a large portion of the Bible have to teach. The teachings are a guild line to allow oneself to return to Him – they’re Heavenly Father. If your a good person, i commend you. Unfortunately, most Mormons I know / known are the most hypocritical and judgmental people I have ever encountered. My mother is one of them. She has no reserve to shout out, or talk in a loud manner in public, about her disgust on Gay issues, other religions – pretty much everything that goes against her beliefs.
Here is the problem with the Mormon teachings as I truly lived by them, then decided to investigate further. I have jotted down some ‘basic’ and publicly questioned teachings or practices the Church has been scrutinized with.
1) The Book of Mormon was rewritten over 3900 times. Why?
2) If the Golden Plates were actually found by Joseph Smith, they would have weighed over 200 LBS.
3) Joseph Smith’s vision in the woods, which is claimed to have been the meeting he had with God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost – which also directed him to uncover the location of the Plates and start a new church, a true church, was not mentioned for years after the initial publication of the Book of Mormon. The publisher added that in after many new versions or corrections were made to the Book of Mormon.
4) Alot of Mormons believe dinosaur bones do come from other planets as the belief is – God made this world out of many planets.
5) There are 13 contradictions in the Book of Mormon. Literally.
6) Women cannot go to the Celestial Kingdom unless they’re husbands call on them in the afterlife. This is why Mormons need to get ‘Sealed’ in the temple as eternal husband and wife in this life. (There are 3 Kingdoms in Heaven – according to the Mormons. Terrestrial, Telestial and the Celestial Kingdoms. Each has it’s degree of merit for those who have lived a semi holy life to those that lived a holy life and followed the commandments and the Word of God.
7) What some call ‘Mormon Underwear’ is actually called ‘Temple Garments’ by the Church. These Garments are provided to people with ‘Temple Recommends’. The Garments are said to keep the ‘Devil’ away from your spirit – to keep your spirit clean without compromising your holiness or faith.
8) The ‘King James’ version of the Bible is the one studied by the LDS church. Look into the biography of King James. He was a madman, murdering King, whom in todays standards would be considered a psychotic tyrant. The original Bible was not meant to be a religious book to begin with. It was merely an account of stories, metaphoric stories, of individuals, religions and cultures that long predate Christianity. Unfortunately today, they hold dear the writings in this Bible, rewritten by a lunatic.
9) The LDS church receives 7 Billion dollars annually from tithing. That’s almost 20 million a day from it’s members. I have a wealthy friend that showed my a letter he received from his Bishop. Reminding him that its a sin to with hold your tithing and that all financial information is to be as accurate as possible when paying tithing. Each member is required to pay 10% of they’re earnings to the Church.
10) The Mormon church has not divulged its finances to the public or its members since 1959 in The USA.
11) Donations to humanitarian aid in the past 25 years – Cash Donations = $327.6 Million / Value of Material Assistance = $884.6 Million. Broken down, it can equate to $6.37 per member annually. Pathetic seeing that this Church is exempt to taxes. Wonder what the interest paid annually is? On 7 Billion dollars worth of tithing from it’s members?
12) In the 1970′s, there was an American wide Civil Rights movement. During this time, BYU was being targeted by other Universities and boycotted from participating in University held competitions due to the Mormons belief that Blacks had no right to hold the Priesthood in the Church. Which was considered a Civil Right violation. Spencer W. Kimball was the Prophet of the LDS church at the time, and received a phone call from the President of the United States of America. He was told that due to the Civil Rights Law, and the churches view on Blacks at the time, the Church would no longer fall under the umbrella of a Tax Free Religion. (The umbrella discussed is the same umbrella which is shared by over 25 other organizations to receive this tax exemption – one of which is the KKK). Spencer W. Kimball then had a revelation from God. He told the church that God now excepts Blacks and other minorities can receive the Priesthood. The LDS church had a mass exodus of members due to this change of heart from God. The teachings in the church, from God Himself is as follows (not quoted): Those that bear the ‘mark’ of Cain are those that have darker skin. The war in Heaven, between Jesus and Lucifer, who were brothers ended. Those that were ‘uncertain’ as to whom to follow – Jesus or Lucifer – were given this mark. They would not be allowed to hold the Priesthood in this life. Only in the next life, would they be able to hold it – depending on their faith and devotion to God in this life. Again, God must have simply changed his mind.
13) The most concentrated geographical area in North America of which women are on anti depressants is in Utah.
14) Once you leave the church, or tell your family your gay, you are disowned by both the Church and your family. I have witnessed this countless times over numerous years. Bizarre seeing as to how the Church prides itself on family values.
15) All members of this Church have a different view on all things. Example: Ask a member where dinosaur bones come from – or why some mormons don’t believe on swimming on Sundays, or numerous other things that pertain to their beliefs. Always a different answer.
16) The world is 5000 – 7000 years old. Really?
17) Adam and Eve were the first humans on Earth. We all come from this pair. To have 7 Billion people on this planet in a period of 5000 – 7000 years that came from 2 people is impossible. My mother, who has been a member for over 39 years told me God placed people throughout the world after Adam and Eve. Truly mind-boggling to hear this from a mature individual that is actually considered intelligent in our society.
18) God knows your choices before you do. Scary notion as this life of ours is presented as the ‘Plan of God’. You will be judged for all actions and thoughts despite Him already knowing the outcome. Look at it this way. As a Mormon, they need to follow the direction of the Church. Don’t ask questions that will make you doubt it’s teachings or shake your Faith. Simply obey. If your feeling lost, pray. If the answers you seek make absolutely no sense at all, then it’s part of Gods plan. You cannot understand the complexity of God. So they live on Faith. No matter how absurd a teaching or belief is. So, if God knows what your going to do before you do it, what’s the point????
19) Natural disasters, bad things that happen to us, good things that happen to us. All of these are God’s will. Mormons do not believe that a hurricane or Tsunami that kills thousands of people is actually contributed by humanities greed to change climate and natural resources on this planet. They believe God is angry, and he shall show his wrath. This is inane as it removes any accountability or responsibility to any individual. Sad.
20) Devout Mormons will ALWAYS have a comeback to all these questions. No matter how silly their answers are, they believe them. It’s a perfect illusion as those answers that cannot be answered logically, are then pointed to a matter of Faith. God has His will and we are not meant to understand it. This does not promote independent thoughts, rationale, enhanced knowledge or wisdom. This only promotes the ‘sheep’ to continue being in the flock.
I believe this Church does teach some very good ethical and moral values to its members. I believe it’s these values that keep members believing all things within this organization. I just wish that the Church would do away with all the childish folklore associated with it. It promotes childish stories, like Jonah and the Whale, Jared – the list goes on. People in this church live in fear of what their choices will do to effect the afterlife. (Most will never admit this)
I as a child and a young adult feared so many things that may affect my eternal salvation due to the unbelievable pressures I had from this church. Despite the fact that God knew what my choices would be. It can become so overwhelming mentally, that many people in the church depend on pharmaceutical drugs to assist with a ‘balance’.
Bottom line, from a quote I read: “If a Church’s members do not believe in all things the same way, in the same manner, then it cannot be called a Church”.
I don’t need any Mormons or anti Mormons making comments on this blog as I have merely outlined some basic beliefs of the LDS church. There are literally thousands more. Some absurd, some understandable.
All I can suggest to any bashers is please, please do your homework and research if you have any questions. And no, the Devil is not working on everyone who is not a Mormon to try and overcome the Church. It’s just basic common sense.
Peace
