Passwords and secret handshakes to enter heaven
Part of the secret Mormon temple ceremony (the endowment) includes learning the four secret handshakes and their secret passwords which will enable faithful Mormons to enter past the angels guarding the gates of the highest level of heaven (the “celestial kingdom”). I learned them when I went through that ceremony, when we Mormons still had to mime the punishment of having our throats slit and our chests ripped open, if we should reveal them. (They are actually copies of 19th century Masonic grips and penalties).

Even Biblical teachings portray actions such as the “laying on of hands”, using oil to bless, sacraments and communions, “fasting”, baptism, sign of the rainbow, etc that don’t make much sense other than giving us mortals something physical to do or see to understand the will of God. It’s not the physical handshakes that matter, it’s the meaning of the covenants and promises associated with them that bring us closer to Christ and understanding his grace. Also the miming of things you mentioned were not punishments, but things you said you would rather have done to you rather than reveal certain things outside of the Temple. Have you ever heard expressions such as “I would rather die than….” Obviously you have forgotten much. And the lies continue.

LikeDislikeWhoa… the lies continued. That’s harsh… but I’m not sure why you have a problem with lies. Your obviously mormon. Your entire theology is based on lies. Let’s just examine a few of them, shall we? The biggest one is that the Book or Mormon is the most correct book on the face of the earth. JS himself stated this in 1841. JS, not to be confused with JC as many of you do, is NOT the salvation of man. That con-artist and “glass looker” wouldn’t let someone prick his finger for your sins. Does this make the Holy Bible a tabloid? The Book of Mormon, written from these golden tablets that JS discovered mention many things that were in the land that we know now as America that were not in America until Columbus came. Horses are mentioned 14 times as well as elephants, cows, barley, wheat, silk, brass, iron, gold and silver as currency… Where is the archaeological evidence that these things existed in American before Columbus? There is none! The lies continue with the Book or Mormon. I’m not a mormon, but I’m also not a moron. Obviously, these are synonymous.

LikeDislikeThere is one crucial difference between these secret handshakes and passwords and the traditions you, Chris, mention; baptism and Communion are not kept as some secret for only those in the Church, but it is the Church’s job to openly invite everyone to be baptized and to sit at the LORD’s table.

LikeDislikeYou think you’re making it better by arguing these points, but you still sound ridiculous, Chris. Your apologetic answers don’t satisfy anyone outside of your cult.

LikeDislikeI can sort of understand some of the crazy Celestial, Terrestial and Telestial heavens. Kolob, Moroni, and Nephi even.
I cannot understand the distain for women. A woman can’t get into any of those heavens without her Husband calling her magic name?
I dowbt Smith and all his publications!

LikeDislikeDianne, there is no distain for women. You’re right that a woman can’t get into the upper level of the Celestial kingdom without a man. But guess what, a man can’t get in there either without a woman. They need each other. People hear half truths and jump up and down shouting that something is wrong, or that a religion is BAD. My advice: don’t rely on sound-bites to make informed decisions. If you want to disagree with the mormon faith, do so because you’ve taken the time to study it a bit. I don’t care if someone doesn’t like Mormonism, or any other religion for that matter. What I care about is when people hate a religion and really don’t have the first clue what that religion believes in.

LikeDislikeYou’re all jackasses attacking one another on their beliefs. We live in America, a free country and we can practice whatever religion we want to. Who cares if you disagree. Don’t be a punk.

LikeDislikeJames you say we need to study Mormonism before saying it’s “bad”? Guess what? I am technically Mormon. I was baptized and went to their church for 3 years. Not once did anyone say a word about being gods and getting planets or secret handshakes. You know why? Because I would have RUN! I am angry that this religion watered down and sanitized what they truly are to get me to convert. I have never gotten to the temple because I’m not tithing and I love coffee. But I’ve heard way too many ex-Mormons that did get to the temple say the exact SAME things! Any religion that lies to get you in, is bad news in my book!
